Waiting for Brando Rehearsal blog. 8/5/12

Waiting for Brando Rehearsal blog. 8/5/12

We are now into week two of rehearsals & it seems each day we’re having mini break-throughs with the play, which is great & also a little strange for myself having picked up an early draft of Waiting For Brando probably about two years ago. Since then I’ve have been amazed at the journey the script has been on to get to the current incarnation we are working with. Having spent a number of fun, productive & slightly boozy nights reading & chatting with the creative team developing the play over the last six or so months I thought going into rehearsals that I knew the play inside out but we continue to find something new & interesting every day.

In the first week of rehearsals our Director Carl spent a fair amount of time working with myself & my stage brother Danny. We built up a bit of family history & tried to establish a brotherly bond through impros, games & one long hot walk along the river, as well as the Friday post work drink which Carl was adamant we attend (He really had to twist our arms, honest). After today It does feel like the work has paid off, each scene run through
sees us finding a greater understanding, rapport & that special brotherly resentment with each other. The resentment may just be on my part though as Danny is yet to lose a single match of our warm up game square ball. My only comfort is that although I am three years his senior, he is playing my older brother. Sad yes but it does help with the pain of defeat.

This week we will be putting the play together as a whole which means we will have the pleasure of working Dame Paul Duckworth more often & it is a pleasure although we are likely to lose around 30 minutes a day to his wild & very funny tangents. The pick of the bunch today was a fully performed (including music) anecdote about himself walking like Tina Turner, I wont go into the details,  but believe me you don’t want me to. Tangents aside we are all getting away from the script & our scenes are starting to come alive, we should be running by the end of the week, in time for the writers & some friends to watch a stagger through.

The word on the street is there are very few tickets left, which is very exciting for us. If you don’t have you tickets already you better get booking Daddio! In the mean time ill try find the time to keep you in the loop.
